Blog 1- Twitter
The blog I have chosen to write about is
Twitter, which is an online social networking service that allows users and
members to read, write and send 140 character messages called tweets. Twitter
allows users to connect with one another using harsh tags of similar interest
and also to share ideas, pictures and songs.
Tuan states that space and place are familiar
words that denote common experience. He continues to explain that we live in
space and that place is security whereas space is freedom (Tuan, 1977). With this being said, Twitter is also the
same as what is explained by Tuan. On twitter members have the freedom to
express their feeling about their everyday life, past life and what they want
in the future. Users have the freedom to update their blogs, even if they do it
minutes apart, it is accepted and knows one would judge you like they would do
so on other social networks such as Facebook.
In this week’s lecture, a genre is described as
a text or a cultural product such as music, writing, drama, art, which is
grouped into classes, based on similarities and shared conventions. Twitter has
the same cultural products that enable users to connect due to similar interests
and to also to express yourself through music, pictures, art and drama. One of
the key concepts I have chosen is power because social media is a very powerful
source. People connect, follow, express and communicate through twitter by
using the harsh tags, pictures, quotes and music. Twitter is a powerful social
network because anyone can access it no matter what age you are and it is
educational, and a fast way to know information about what is happening in the
world. Twitter is secure as you can have the freedom to show what is best for
you and also view from others what you want.
